MALACCA FOR DAY 2 AND DAY 3

We decided in the very last minute to visit Malacca on Day 2 of Chinese New Year. This is because we want to avoid the Sunday heavy traffic of Day 4. We got into contact with a few friends in Malacca but in the end, we only managed to meet two as we squeezed our 1 day visit to the limit! The jam was not so bad going to Malacca as I can achieve an average speed of 120km/h to the top speed of 140km/h. It was only when we were close to Ayer Keroh that the jam began to pick up.

Many hotels were fully booked but we finally managed to find one in Bachang, Malacca. We also managed to meet Uncle Andrew and family as they came for just a day visit. Our friend, Liza and her hubby, Lennard brought us out for dinner. The purpose of this trip is to eat ikan bakar (BBQ fish) or asam curry. They took us to Sungai Duyung but it was loaded with people. We later tried Umbai, another place which is famous for ikan bakar apart from Sungai Duyung and Serkam.

The dining area is beside the river with fishermen's nets and boats.

Unfortunately, our favourite fish, the stingray was out of stock.

The local dark green oysters, called kupang.

The style here is to serve the ikan bakar with nasi lemak.

As well as otah.

There were also a huge crowd here so we waited quite long for the main dishes to arrive.

The ikan bakar with the lovely sauce.

The fried version was just as good. The sauce topping it is great as well.

Both of our hosts invited us over for the traditional authentic Baba Nyonya Peranakan lunch. Lennard's mom was the chef.

Sambal is a must have for their meals. It is as important as kimchi for the Koreans. It was also the first time which I tried to eat the whole meal with my right hand. We asked Lennard to demo to us the correct way to eat. The experience of eating with the hand in my humble opinion makes you appreciate the food more.

This sambal added with lime and then mix with the rice before consumption.

When we returned from Malacca, the traffic was quite heavy. Still it was not so bad until around 80km away from JB, where I could only achieve an average speed of 40km/h. Apart from that, as always, the police were extremely hardworking during this time of the year.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank our host, Liza and Lennard for their hospitality. Lennard's parents especially for inviting us to sleep over as well as to have lunch. It was really a great experience.
