PHYSX BY AGEIA

You will be wondering what the heck is a physics accelerator? Me too when I first saw it. I was damn clueless. I was checking out some Dell systems to buy for the super power hungry rendering and gaming when I see this stuff. There are many games released to make full use of this baby. Check out some sample footages.

REAL-TIME FOOTAGES

The AGEIA PhysX physics accelerator helps to enable dynamic motion and interaction for a totally new gaming experience. If you check the website, you will see some cool features, let me just copy and paste here.

Exciting immersive physical gaming feature that you can expect to see in next generation cutting edge titles will include groundbreaking physics features such as:
-Explosions that cause dust and collateral debris
-Characters with complex, jointed geometries for more life-like motion and interaction
-Spectacular new weapons with unpredictable effects
-Cloth that drapes and tears the way you expect it to
-Lush foliage that sways naturally when brushed against
-Dense smoke & fog that billow around objects in motion

It is really great! I love it man! The footages show how great gaming experience can be! Now, this will surely make the virtual reality presentation look even more real!

Here is the objective of this physics accelerator by answering the question:

What is the Gaming Power Triangle?

The gaming triangle represents the three critical PC processors that enable the best possible gaming experience. The AGEIA PhysX processor is the key hardware element required for optimized game physics and is the new third engine of the Gaming Power Triangle which will drive a new era in exciting and immersive gaming. This new triangle consists of the central processing unit (CPU), graphics processing unit (GPU) and Physics Processing Unit (PPU) working together to balance the extensive computing demands of game logic, graphics and physics. Within this balanced triangle the CPU “thinks and orchestrates” to drive game artificial intelligence and logic, the general purpose GPU “renders and displays” to deliver beautiful 3D imagery, and the third leg of the triangle, the new AGEIA PhysX Processor, “moves and interacts” to take gaming to the next level with pervasive dynamic motion and interaction.

The Dell shipped in Singapore online already has this baby lined up for the desktops. I am planning to configure and buy the new computer for a friend for rendering and I am sure this physics accelerator will put in more punch! The price for this baby in Dell's website is S$410.55 and this system has the 512MB PCIe(TM) x16 Radeon(TM) X1900 XTX w/TV-Out and DVI. Wah! Damn solid system I tell you! My dream machine for gaming!

Those of you who loves gaming, don't you ever miss those footages! See what this baby can do!
