FOOTBALL: BARCELONA IS BUILDING A REAL GALATICOS TEAM

Unlike the Perez era where he is only interested in investing in great offensive players, Barcelona is building a complete Galaticos team. Apart from the capture of Thierry Henry and Yaya Touré, they are trying to sign Cristian Chivu, Eric Abidal, Elano Blumer, Cesc Fabregas and Frank Lampard. After Javier Saviola ended his relationship with Barcelona, they are also trying to get rid of Thiago Motta, Ludovic Giuly, Gianluca Zambrotta, Deco and Eidur Gudjohnsen. Many are still not confirmed. Van Bronckhorst already left for Feyenoord.

What do their fiercest rival Real Madrid do? They are so quiet in the transfer window I could hardly hear anything. They even want to sack Fabio Capello for goodness sake. It is really frustrating to be a Real Madrid fan. I wish I can kick the ass of the president, Calderon and football director, Mijatović. Stop dreaming of Kaka already! Dream until the cow comes home also still dreaming! After 4 years of no titles and changing so many coaches, they are again going to repeat history of sacking a winning coach. History is repeating itself and this time I don't know whether they need to wait more than 4 years. Barcelona are building the squad from strength to strength and Real Madrid are purposely making themselves weaker and weaker. Real Madrid always have the reputation of buying players they don't need and I don't see why it is changing anytime soon.

TRANSFORMERS

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Opening today in Singapore! Remember the good old days when you must not miss a single episode shown on tv? I even have a few of those robots in my collection! Ah, brings back good memories of boyhood, haha!

I read about the Transformers articles in the newspaper yesterday! I saw the full body design of all the robots to be shown in the movie. I tell you they look more like Gundam to me than Transformers. This is again the same argument I had about James Bond when Daniel Craig is chosen to be James Bond.

If you are going to make a movie about Transformers, make them look like one! No, they totally look alien to me. Megatron is even worse, if they don't write his name there, I don't even recognize him! Optimus Prime still can lah but totally unlike the cartoon version. BumbleBee as well looks like a super cool sports car transformed robot. They look so Gundam I just cannot accept their physical designs!

Michael Bay is the director so you know you will be expecting a lot of LOUD EXPLOSIONS in the movie. Pearl Harbor, Armageddon, The Rock, Bad Boys I and II to name a few movies directed under him and he is even going to finish off Prince of Persia: Sands of Time movie soon! Prince of Persia, that ancient computer game! I always play in Shevchenko's house in the goold old days! Critics complain that they spend so much time in the special effects that the storyline suffers a lot!

Well, we just have to go and watch it ourselves! I hope I can enjoy it and not be let down by it!

Transformers

Some other possible cartoons to make the big screen are Thundercats in 2010, Voltron to be released next year, G.I. Joe: Real American Hero in 2010, Smurfs to be released next year and He-Man and the Masters of the Universe in 2009. Many nostalgic cartoons to be revived in the big screen. I just hope they will hold true to their original designs! My wish? I am always a big fan of Saber Rider and the Star Sheriffs and so I want it to go into the cinema! You know, all these cartoon themes, including Transformers, I can still remember how to sing to them even until today! Haha! The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie was re-released not long ago. Has anyone watch it yet? Is it good? At least they go back to cartoon animated design so they are closer to the cartoon designs. I don't mind it as long as it is good.

By the way, Jackie Chan is acting in the first ever movie together with Jet Li in The Forbidden Kingdom, Jet Li, Andy Lau and Takeshi Kaneshiro are acting in a movie together called Warlords and they are creating the romance of the three kingdoms during the Han Dynasty movie called Three Kingdoms: Resurrection of the Dragon which stars Maggie Q as Cao Ying, Andy Lau as Zhao Yun, Sammo Hung as Zhang Fei, Leon Lai as Zhou Yu as well as Vanness Wu and Charlie Yeung. We are going to have some interesting Chinese movies coming our way soon! Hope all of them will not disappoint!

ANYTHING OR WHATEVER?

Do you have this problem of not able to decide things for yourself when there are too many choices?

Ok, you go to a coffeeshop or kopitiam, sit down there, then waiter or waitress comes by to get your order.

Sexy waitress: Sir, what do want to drink?
You: Erm, let me see. Erm, I think I want Coke! Oh, wait! Maybe Root Beer...oh wait, let me think....erm, maybe apple or fizz up or cloudy lemon or Cola lemon. Wait....wait.....maybe ice lemon tea, erm maybe peach tea, or jasmine green tea....(you still cannot make up your mind because the waitres is too sexy!)(you wish you can talk to her forever so keep on dragging and dragging).
Sexy waitress: (extremely annoyed but don't want to offend the customer) Sir, have you made up your mind?
You: (still want to delay some more) I think, erm, please give me a few seconds to make up my mind. Erm, I think maybe white grape tea, or apple tea or perhaps chrysanthemum tea will do. I still cannot make up my mind. I love all these drinks........(trying to give more excuses to delay)
Sexy waitress: (losing her patience) OK sir, I have met a customer like you before. We have a solution for you. You want effervescent carbonated soft drink or refreshing non-carbonated drinks?
You: I think both I like, hai....still can't make up my mind (trying to be funny and hope she will talk some more).
Sexy waitress: Fine, in that case, I will give you both! I will give you ANYTHING and WHATEVER!
You: Huh? Anything and whatever drink?

So because of a common situation like above, Singapore had created two drinks called ANYTHING and WHATEVER to solve the problem. ANYTHING comes in 6 effervescent carbonated soft drink flavours. WHATEVER comes in 6 refreshing non-carbonated flavours. All the flavours are mentioned above in the conversation. They have been out for at least a month or two already but I thought I blog about it for those who don't know. So basically you go buy this drink, you won't know the content. You have 1/6 chances of getting the correct carbonated drink and 1/6 chances of getting the correct non-carbonated drink of your choice.

ARCHIMEDES DEATH RAY

Archimedes of Syracuse was said to have repelled an attach by the Romans using a "burning glass" to focus sunlight on approaching ships causing them to catch fire. I watched the Discovery channel Mythbusters on this particular experiment.

The experiment was done by the MIT Product Engineering Processes people. It is definitely interesting for them to test out what the historical records have said about this method. The did one on land and another targeting the boat in the sea. The conclusion they got was that it will require too much hardwork, people and lots of mirrors to really set the boat in the sea on fire. They were struggling to get the boats on fire. It was therefore seemed highly possible that it will remain as a myth.

FOOTBALL: HENRY TO BARCELONA FINALLY?

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

When Milan's favourite son, Shevchenko left them, it was one of the most shocking news on the planet. People who are considered the most loyal of them all in the football world. Thierry Henry is the son of Arsenal, as much as Raul is to Real Madrid. They will never leave the club. That's the old belief. Nowadays, the most loyal player leaves too. It is therefore no longer shocking to see Henry moving to Barcelona.

After seasons of speculation, it is finally confirmed? With Henry in the starting line-up with Messi, Ronaldinho and Eto'o, Barcelona are starting their very own fantasy team era. Real Madrid have that when Luis Figo, Zinedine Zidane and Ronaldo were around. It was the greatest dream of any football fan to watch the most fantasy line-up at that time. You can only do that in the games! Now, if all players are injury free and are in good form, Barcelona will be a scary club in offense next season! They have all the firepower they need!

Will Wenger leave too? I heard there are links of him with Real Madrid. I have never in my mind think of him taking over Real Madrid because he is the untouchables of Arsenal. Deep inside me, I still want Capello to stay on.

William Hill have given odds of 3/1 that Wenger will still be at Arsenal in a years time, while offer 9/4 that his destination will be Real Madrid. Also on the books are 7/1 Barcelona; 10/1 England manager and 12/1 manager of France.

While his replacement has been priced up as follows:
6/1 Phil Scolari; 7/1 Hiddink; 8/1 Capello; 10/1 Lippi; 12/1 Erikkson; 14/1 Rijkaard, O'Neill, Van Gaal; 20 Mourinho.

Will Arsenal sign some or at least one good striker when Henry departs? They may need to wait longer to win anything if there are no more matured players in Arsenal. Arsenal still have two great players in Fabregas and van Persie. Barcelona on the other hand will make La Liga more attractive with his signing. Interestingly enough, two of the Premiership's top scorers of the past few seasons are in La Liga.

LIVE FREE OR DIE HARD

DIEHARD 4.0

Do you guys still remember the famous phrase below?

YIPPEE KI YAY MOTHER F*CKER!

Yes, John McClane is back! Bruce Willis is back! Unlike Sylvester Stallone who looks way out of shape for Rocky Balboa, this dude still have the charm, the charisma and the coolness to do it once again! They always say that sequals always are a letdown. I hope it will be an exception for this one! Trailers can always cheat us so it is never good to trust them.

Watching through the trailers, I love this phrase by Bruce Willis.

"I'm gonna go kill this guy and get my daughter. Or go get my daughter and kill this guy. Or kill all of 'em!"

I hope this movie will not disappoint. DieHardX, my nick, was inspired by DieHard because it is a great word to represent my name which has initials of D and H as my Christian name and surname. I added an X at the back to give it a unique character. It could mean the 10th time, in the Roman number.

How do you define DieHard?

1. hard to die, escape death with ease
2. (my arts teacher's version) you die with your whole body hard or die with a specific part of the body hard.....

JOHOR BAHRU, THE CRIME CAPITAL CITY OF MALAYSIA!

As you read in the newspapers all the time, there will never once be a week gone by where there are no crime news in Johor, especially in Johor Bahru. It is a known fact that it is one of the worst cities in Malaysia given the high crime rate, the deteriorating state of public facilities and overpriced food.

I have been to some of the most highest living standard cities in Malaysia. Miri, an oil city beside Brunei has a higher living standard because of oil, foreigners and Brunei. Kota Kinabalu has a higher living standard because of successful tourism. Johor Bahru basically has a higher living standard because of Singapore. Guess who has the most highest living standard among all three? Well, Johor Bahru. Just going out to eat at kopitiams you will know that the price is not much different from the pricing in Singapore after currency conversion. Just slightly cheaper. I even dare to declare that Johor Bahru has the most expensive hawker food and drinks in the whole country!

The notorious crime scene in Johor Bahru with the amount of gang rapes, murders, robbers and criminals with parangs all over the city is also making it the crime capital of Malaysia. Sibu may have one of the most famous gangsters problems in the country but their bravery to commit the most serious crimes is nothing close to what those in Johor Bahru can achieve. The police who is always late when you call them is a common thing here. During my first stay in a rented semi-detached house which is just 300M away from the police station, it took them over 20 minutes to reach the house. I don't mean a small police post which can only fit 1 person inside. It is the police headquarters of the whole state!

There was a thief who dropped by when we were having dinner around 7pm. Some clothes and slippers were stolen outside the house. We managed to detect him trying to use a bamboo pole with a hook connected to it to go through the window to steal things in our room. When I entered the room, the pole was already in the room but he ran away once we shouted at him.

The criminals in Johor Bahru are so daring that they commit their crimes even during daytime. I guess they know that the police will always be late so it doesn't matter whether they strike in the morning or at night. There is no fear of the always delay, useless police force which are only interested in doing spot checks on cars with tinted glass and blocking cars at junctions.

A Malay teacher from Malacca had their house broken into by a few people armed with parangs just a month plus back. I doubt it was even reported in the newspapers. What you read in the newspapers are probably just a small portion of the amount of crimes happening here. They took all their valuables and luckily did not harm any of the family members. If they did, there is nothing the teacher could have done anyway. After the incident, she lives in great fear and has great hope of leaving Johor Bahru. I heard the city is having shortage of teachers because nobody want to be transferred to the capital city of crime.

Last time, after a heavy rain with thunder, a huge portion of traffic lights were not working because they were struck by lightning. We were caught in the heavy traffic jam to the airport, stuck through over 5 traffic light junctions. The coolest jam was in front of a traffic light which has a police station overlooking it! The police station is just in front of that traffic light junction and you see no policemen coming out to direct traffic. How cool is that? Where were they? The rain had stopped so there are no excuses not to carry out duty. The distance from the police station to the traffic light is easily 10 meters away, although this one is not as big as the headquarter that is near my ex-rented home. The jam caused 2 hours of delay of my journey to the airport to take a flight home to Sibu.

During rains, the roads become rivers! You will have huge amount of water collection at different parts of the road. It is very common to have floods here and there blocking the roads, especially those roads near flyovers which take centuries to complete. There are many vacant buildings around Johor Bahru too. You will be surprised by the size of them. One of them is a tall building that can be seen far away. They all just make the city a lot more beautiful!

The announcement of the government to put more forces and cars in Johor Bahru is a waste of time. Even if there is police station at every 300M radius of the city, the police will still come 20 minutes late. The patrol cars will be only interested to go around hiding at junctions to spot check cars. Also with the high standard of maintenance of Malaysia, I think these added reinforcements will not last over a month!

The roads in Johor Bahru are also among the worst in the country. I drove in many cities in Malaysia, including Brunei and Singapore. I have not come across much worse roads in the whole country. There are holes all over the roads and it is a common site to see people put bricks in the hole to even out the road. Imagine, a whole piece of brick can be inserted into the hole. It is like having those 4WD rallies in the deep jungle. You just have to avoid the holes, some of them impossible since the whole stretch is filled with the holes. During my 6 months in Johor Bahru, there are however some works done to cover some of them. Still, if you calculate in percentage, I would say only 5% of the total holes were taken care of!

The next most interesting thing which you can see in Johor Bahru is the use of chairs to block parking lots everywhere. I have visited many places in Malaysia and this is the only place I had seen to have so many chairs booking the parking lots. Basically the shops fronting the parking lots are doing it. It is extremely irritating especially during peak hours when you cannot find parking lots. Then you see many lots taken up by chairs. Some of them even have guards or people standing near it to remove it if the potential customers are driving in. Those public parking lots are public! What the heck and what authority do they have to book it for their own use? I don't see any painted RESERVED word or plate number written in it to confirm that someone actually buy the lot down.

This is Johor Bahru to you. They want to have a Iskandar Development Region here? Foreign investors should live in the city for a week before making a decision. I am sure they will have the best impression ever! I think I need to buy some baseball bats to be placed in my car and current rented house for protection. I need to learn my swings! I suggest Johor to start their own baseball league. Encourage everyone to learn to play baseball because there are just too many parangs going around. We need to train people to protect themselves against parangs.

Just last week I signed the petition created by the Tiong Hua Association which is organized in the whole city to tell the police of the concerns of the citizens living in Johor Bahru regarding the seriousness of the crime. I did my part but I know how good quality the police force is. Therefore, I am not surprised how useless the signatures are now. I know the efforts will be in vain. There is an online version. They won't last a month or two even if the government promises to use the crane to bring the whole Bukit Aman police station here.

I think the best solution is to build a Robocop or mutate a human to create Spiderman! You know how superheroes always have their specific cities to protect? It is time we have our very own superhero because the city is really rotten beyond repair. Worse than Gotham (Batman), Metropolis (Superman), Detroit (Robocop) and New York (Spiderman) combined! I don't care if he is CicakMan or LipasMan or KalaJengkingMan or KuraKuraMan or HarimauMan or SingaMan or HelangMan. As long as he/she is more competent to catch all the criminals, I don't care what he/she is mutated from! This place is so dirty and polluted too so any mutated form is possible. It also doesn't take a rocket scientist to know which is the biggest race and religion in Johor Bahru.

There is a famous saying here:
If you have not experienced being a snatch theft victim, or being a theft victim, being robbed or even raped, you ain't live in Johor Bahru yet!

You must satisfy one of the requirements to be accepted as Johor Bahru citizen and experience the life of living in this vibrant city. We already had - we are theft victims in 3 months. I have been a Malaysian since 1981, and in only 3 months in Johor Bahru, I made the first ever phone call to the police in my life. Fast enough? It is a record to be proud of! Malaysia Boleh!

The person who answered the phone talked so casually and slowly, without any sense of urgency and confirming your address a million times, you knew you made a mistake and wasted your time calling them. It is nothing like the fast response portrayed in the TV shows of 911. The efficiency was far too top notch. Two policemen did come to the scene of the crime 20 minutes later with live ammo all over their belts and a new Wira car where the plastic sheets were still wrapping the seats. I wonder the live bullets are still there today for display only and probably the plastic sheets too.

They stood there chit chat a while before leaving. Actually, I did not even want to bother to call them in the first place but I heard the siren sound just 10-15 minutes after the thief left later behind my ex-rented house. The police confirmed that the way the thief stole the items from the crime scene behind my ex-rented house fit very much my description and did not disregard the high possibility that it could be the same person. I thought by reporting to them, I could help them in any possible way since it could be a related case. I was totally wrong! Until today, nothing is solved and heard, the case is automatically closed. Nothing happened, life goes on. It also proven my assumptions wrong that living nearer to the police station is safer. The safest place is always the most dangerous place!

FOOTBALL: CAPELLO'S WAR MANUAL OF FOOTBALL

IF Sun Tzu is famous for his war manual, Capello should produce his own war manual. His strategies won the 30th league for Real Madrid early this morning (local time), just after his birthday on 17 June. Interestingly, the piece of chess that he gambled in the last substitution that won him the league is a player on loan. Now, will Real Madrid reconsider him? Real Madrid have always been beaten by their own players on loan. Morientes and Eto'o come to mind. However, it is because of Ronaldo that both of them lost their first team places. Now, will Reyes leave Real Madrid after a one year loan from Arsenal?

Praises have to be for Capello for responding well after van Nistelrooy and Beckham were injured. Reyes came in at the 66th minute and within 2 minutes scored the equalizer. Diarra forced an own goal before Reyes scored another to seal the 3-1 win after trailing for around an hour from a 17th minute goal.

Now, Roberto Carlos and David Beckham can finish off on a high in the club. This title like which I mentioned many posts ago was what I wished Beckham could win for all his contributions in the club, especially these 2 months of struggle. I hope Capello the strategist stays. 10 years ago he came to Madrid to help them win. 10 years later, déjà vu! He won it again after a barren spell of four years! He is still keeping his reputation of winning every single domestic league title with every team he manages with. Incredible!

CONGRATULATIONS REAL MADRID!

CONGRATULATIONS FABIO CAPELLO!

FARWELL ROBERTO CARLOS!

FAREWELL DAVID BECKHAM!

FOOTBALL: THE FINAL SHOWNDOWN

Real Madrid will go into the final match against Real Mallorca with a big possibility of not having many of their top players. Diarra will miss it as he is called up to play for the Mali national team. Gago, Higuain, Marcelo and Robinho could miss too as their countries Brazil and Argentina prepare for trainings.

It is funny that Ronaldinho and Kaka can be excused and not Robinho. Another funny thing is that the Copa America competition only starts 26 June 2007 and Robinho is forced to go for training camp and not play in the last match of the season on 17 June 2007. Why can't Dunga let him report late to camp because the league he plays in has not ended? Fishy.

Real Mallorca have not lost at the Bernabeu since the last 5 visits. I am sure you guys remember Samuel Eto'o days on loan there and now you have Barcelona's Maxi Lopez on loan there too. It will be a hard match to win!

Let's talk about Thierry Henry for a bit since you see his faces all over the headlines of almost every football site in the internet. I had grown sick and tired of his Barcelona affair. It is probably the longest and most suffering speculation in football history after Robinho's. Remember few seasons back, we have the link of Robinho to Real Madrid? I just hope this issue is settled once and for all. I also find it extremely weird that Barcelona players come out one after another to declare their desires to have Henry in Nou Camp to play alongside them but nobody makes a complaint. Can a club allow its players to declare affection publicly for another player from another club to play in the league as often as they can afford it in the news?

Anyway, back to the NBA. Spurs already won Game 3 and is on the way to victory! Can the Cavaliers stop them? It will be an embarrassing defeat if the Spurs sweep through perfectly.

LONELY TREE

After 1 and a half years of not returning back to Sibu, one of the biggest changes I could see is the disappearance of the Lau King Howe Hospital. What is left is a lonely tree and the Lau King Howe Medical Memorial Museum. The tree itself stands out the most at the centre of the land where the hospital once stood.

Now, everyone who needs to go to the public hospital in an emergency needs to travel a long way to reach it. The polyclinic and the private hospitals in the city are other alternatives if it is not severe or you have the money to pay.

FOOTBALL: CRAZY DRAWS

Yeah, as if everything is planned from above or perhaps below, the coincident 3 draws with two late goals scored to force 2 of the draws are really like a storyline fit for the Oscars. How on earth can coincidences happen in just 17-20 seconds? You tell me. It is truly a wild script meant for the movies.

Anyway, I just cannot believe the whole story but now it's over, the La Liga champion will only be known on the last day. Who will win it? Real Madrid will be assured the victor if they win their last match. If they draw, they need Barcelona and Sevilla to draw as well. If they lose, they need Barcelona and Sevilla to lose as well.

Well, it is going to be a crazy last day of the league come this weekend!

Real Madrid VS. Mallorca
Gimnastic de Tarragona VS. Barcelona
FC Sevilla VS. Villarreal

Real Madrid 73points
Barcelona 73 points
FC Sevilla 71 points

I watched 2007 NBA Finals Game 1 and I can tell you the Cavaliers need a Pippen to help their Jordan, who is James. James was double, triple and quadruple teamed every time he tries to go for the basket. Game 2 just finished and it seems like the Cavaliers are doomed to lose the fight if they continue to rely entirely on James from Game 3 onwards. The rebounds by the Cavaliers are promising, regardless of offensive or defensive rebounds. They just need someone else to get the points.

FOOTBALL: TRANSFERS AND SATELLITE TV

Since most leagues in Europe have ended, transfers have been on the high, although some are really new names. Manchester United had confirmed on the purchase of Nani, Anderson and Owen Hargreaves. Liverpool bought Simon and Nemeth. Others appear to be in the final stages of negotiation are Scott Parker to West Ham United and Palacio to Barcelona. Henry again is linked with Barcelona as well as Abidal this time around. Kaka linked with Real Madrid for ages now and I don't know seriously where it will go from here.

Being back to Sibu is nice. I can have all the satellite TV I want to watch! The England VS. Brazil friendly will be abit hard to catch with my bestman duties on 2nd June early morning until night! Dunga has been complaining about the state of the Wembley stadium. I have been looking up my grandma for the crash course to learn all the procedures. I even took out the 1987 videotape to watch the good old days marriage of my uncle. I can see myself as a 6 year-old boy! My goodness! It is hard to follow my culture! Haha! I am willing to learn, I wonder what will the next generation be doing after this if the custom is not passed down.

I will definitely want to watch the many international matches offered. We have friendlies of England VS. Brazil on 2nd June local time 0255, Switzerland VS. Argentina on 3rd June local time 0840 (delayed) and Brazil VS. Turkey on 6 June local time 0155. EURO 2008 qualifiers are also there to watch! Still, they have all the weird timetable ranging from 0055 to 12350 local time.

NBA finals is around the corner too, abit disappointed that there is no East Conference Finals live on TV between Pistons and Cavs. I will still have the chance to watch the finals starting 8 June 0900 local time. Spurs are already waiting for the match either between Pistons or Cavs. It is a matchup between R.Hamilton and L.James. Looking forward to it!

French Open 2007 will be good as well as I can catch some nice live tennis action since the days of Steffi Graf! Haha! I was no longer a crazy fan after she retired. Yes, this is the first tournament where the prize money of both men's and women's singles are equalled. Women's Singles Final on 9 June 2100 local time and Men's Singles Final 10 June 2100 local time.

Before I end this post, I found some updates on David Ginola. Perhaps Donnyginonymous will be interested to read. You may need to type the link into Babel Fish to direct translate if you don't read French.
